Ideal Tape Co forms part of the Tape Division of American Biltrite Inc, a quoted corporation on the All American Stock Exchange. ABI began in 1908 as a supplier of rubber soles and heels to the US footwear industry. Overall control remains firmly with the third generation of the founding Marcus family, three members of which hold senior executive positions within the corporation. ABI is financially strong, committed to long term controlled growth and provides a supportive base for its operating companies.
Current global sales are in excess of US$ 400 million and principal activities comprise:
- CONGOLEUM CORPORATION. high quality vinyl tile and wide width flooring systems (US No 2 after Armstrong).
- AMERICAN BILTRITE (CANADA) Ltd. Rubber floorings, conveyor belts, shoe soling and repair rubber (Canadian No 1).
- ABI TAPE DIVISION. Tape products for Signwriting (World No 1), Footwear (World No 1), HVAC (US No 2) and Electronics (Big in US) Industries.
- K&M ASSOCIATES L.P. Costume jewellery and accessories for major US Retailers (Sole supplier to Sears and major supplier lo Walmart and K Mart).
The Tape Division itself has sales of US$ 100 million, with 15% to the Footwear Industry. Shoe tape products are primarily manufactured by Ideal Tape Co. USA, with some special items made to specification by selected contractors working with Ideal Tape Co - Belgium. American Biltrite Far East Inc in Singapore and since 1999 ABItalia Inc in Italy, provide a further warehousing, conversion and distribution facility in their respective influence areas.
